KONITA KTP-NP Process Free Thermal CTP Plate
Pre-Press – Pressroom & Plate Handling Procedure
Plate Type: Non-ablative, Negative working, No-process required, Thermal/UV sensitive Digital Plate

• Up to 50,000 impressions for offset packaging (even with UV)
Dependent upon image resolution, press, press chemistry, ink and paper conditions.
Imaging: Exposure Energy required: 160 -180 mJ/cm2 (830nm Thermal) 45 – 65 mJ/cm2 (405nm UV upon request) Depending on Imaging device type, configuration and resolution.
Note: KTP-NP is a develop-on-press plate and does not require any processing steps prior to mounting on press. However, if a processed plate is needed before mounting on press, the imaged plate can be developed with a Konita DV-NP wash solution (pH neutral) or a detergent solution.
1. The KTP-NP plates are mounted on press the same way as any other Litho plate.
2. Once the press is ready to print, the operator engages the dampening forms first to “wet the plate ” for about 30 seconds to a minute, followed by the ink forms and paper feed simultaneously.
3. The fountain solution swells the un-imaged coating, loosening the adhesion to the substrate. The tacky ink removes the swollen un-imaged area of the coating, which is then transferred to the blanket and is carried off the press with the first few make-ready sheets.
Note: Field trials have shown that most printers’ standard start-up procedure will work without any problems.
4. Some press configurations are such that the dampener form and ink form rollers engage simultaneously. In these instances, extra make-ready copies may be required to carry off the un-imaged coating.
5. Small duplicator presses with integrated types of dampeners may require the plates to be pre-dampened using a Webril type wipe with fountain solution prior to the press start – up sequence.
Note: Internal testing results and field trials have shown that the un-imaged coating, which is removed during the develop-on-press process, does not mix/contaminate the fountain solution system or the inking system. The un-imaged coating is carried out on the first few make-ready sheets.
Plates can be handled before and after imaging for 4 to 8 hours in white light (depending on light intensity up to 800 lux), and 24 hours in yellow light.
Exceeding these limits will cause the background to darken, thus reducing the exposure contrast and may slow the development on press, resulting in extra make-ready waste.
Exceeding these limits may result in the plate not properly developing on press.
Note: A quick test to see if the coating is still acceptable is to use a water soaked sponge or Webril wipes to wipe the coating area (NO image) and see if the coating will come off easily. If coating comes off easily, then it should be good to image and go on-press.
Latent Image Stability
Under light-tight storage conditions the imaged plate may be kept for 1 week.
Imaged plates must be stored face to face with interleaf sheet between the plates and stored in a light tight environment.
(1) Unopened box 25oC (77 oF) or below and Relative Humidity at less than 60%
(2) Opened box should be stored 25oC (77 oF) or below and used ASAP (~1 week depending on humidity level.
As with all CTP plates, it is recommended that both raw and imaged plates be handled with gloves, and be stored with interleaving slip-sheets to prevent fingerprinting and scratching.
Once the plate is run/processed on press there is no special handling required because the plate is no-longer light sensitive.
